Date: 1870s (possibly Centennial)
Size: 33.5"x 70" (85.1cm x 177.8cm)
Materials: Wool field and stripes. Stars are linen.
Header: Cotton with brass grommets.
Stitching: Machine sewn field and stripes. Hand sewn stars.
Condition: Very good. Has a few small holes and some contemporary repairs.
Markings: "Mutch" or "Murch" on both sides; "6x3"; also has another undistinguishable inscription.
Notes: Stars point in different directions. Probably US Navy Small Boat Flag. Examined by Howard Madaus who assessed the date based on type of grommets and size.
